Backpacking through Europe in 1994

Walking to the Louvre

As I walked out of the cemetery and back into the streets of Paris, I felt more alive than I had ever felt!

I walked past the Arc de Triomphe (the Triumph Arch) which honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and continued down the Champs-Élysées.

The sun sets behind the Arc de Triomphe.

Walking to the Louvre

Day 23 / 9-29-94
Paris, France

I was on my way to the Louvre, and as I passed by an actual street-performing mime, I felt as if I was living the joyous life of a struggling artist myself.

I stopped into a church I passed along the way. I got down on my knees and I began to pray (and gave a silent acknowledgement to The Mamas & The Papas, another culturally significant band from the 60’s). I said a prayer for Jim Morrison and for my own personal safety during this adventure.

Then, as I walked along the banks of the Seine river, I became fascinated by all of the art for sale by street vendors. Although I wasn’t in a position to buy anything, I stopped and examined everything.

I could see the Louvre in the distance, and my excitement grew with each step!
